Born in Belfast in 1927 but raised in Cheshire, Judith Moy cannot remember a time when she did not paint. Both parents were keen amateur artists and holidays were spent in North Wales where she mainly used watercolour and gouache. She went to Sir John Deanes Grammar School, Nothwich and then to Bedford Froebel College where she specialised in Art.
She taught in Colchester and London before marrying a farmer/company director in North Essex where she settled for the next 30 years. During this time she exhibited widely in East Anglia and was a committee member of the Colchester Art Society. She took to painting in oils which slowed her down and gave her time to consider the mechanics of her work. In 1980 she moved to Rutland and later started and managed the Uppingham Gallery, the forerunner of the well known Goldmark Gallery. She also painted and exhibited in the area.
In 1989 she retired to Shrewsbury to paint full-time. She turned to the relatively new medium of acrylics which she found very difficult to master at first. But most of her work is in this medium now, In the comfort of her studio but all the preliminary work is done on the spot in Shropshire, Wales and wherever she finds herself, and she makes dozens of drawings in pencil charcoal and ink to capture the immediacy of her subjects. She also finds time to do some teaching and demonstrating; she has been a committee member of the Shropshire Art Society and of the Gateway Arts Centre, Shrewsbury.

Studied Fine Art at Leicester College of Art & Design. After graduating she spent 18 months in Mauritius with the International Voluntary Service as an artist. On her return to England she established a partnership working in property renovation and interior design using her skills to produce the architectural drawings and artists impressions of projects undertaken.

In 1982 she formed a business in conjunction with her sister, a silversmith, working closely with her producing a range of etched brass bowls, door plates etc. A bowl produced by them was accepted by the Victoria & Albert Museum for its permanent collection.

In 1990 in commemoration of the evacuation of Dunkirk she produced a Limited Edition of 150 pairs of brass etched coasters. Edition No. 2 was presented by her at the opening of the Dunkirk Exhibition in Dover to Winston Churchill MP grandson of the late Sir Winston Churchill. Edition No. 3 was presented to Major General Ramsay son of the late Admiral Ramsay who masterminded the Dunkirk Evacuation in 1940. Edition No. 1 was accepted by H.R.H Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

Cheryl lives in Sandwich where she has a custom built studio in her garden. Most of her work is inspired by the countryside around her home where she spends many hours walking with her English Setter.

In June 2003 she was elected as a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and in March 2004 was elected a member of the Pastel Society UK.

If you are interested in ceramic sculpture then this is not to be missed. Even if sculpture isn’t your bag I can promise you that you will enjoy this rare oportunity to see one of the UK’s leading makers and double bonus, there are two of them…

Paul Priest has been sculpting in ceramics for many years, his work is and always has been quite unique and often a little mad - like the man himself! Gaynor Ostinelli attended one of Pauls courses and in Pauls words “she stood out” They have collaborated in there work for some 6 years now and have rapidly climbed to the top of the tree in the sculpture world.

Paul and Gaynor will be bringing a new body of work to the gallery to combine with our next show. So they will also be able to talk us through there new collection. There demonstration are always a lot of fun and very informative, there will be a nominal charge and places are limited so contact the gallery soon to book a place as they always sell out quickly. Your place will also give you entry to our raffle to win a piece of Ostinelli & Priest sculpture.

Surrounded by the olive groves and vineyards of Chianti, Certaldo is half-way between Florence and Siena and it is here that I have chosen to settle with Clara, my Italian girlfriend.

After a long and ambitious journey of self-discovery - designing, teaching, and working for studios in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA - I now feel at home here in Tuscany, where
I apply my 25 years’ experience to the development of a greater understanding of the art of ceramics.

The environment in which I live inspires me with great energy and I feel that the work I am now producing is a dynamic integration of the influences of all my world travels. In my Tuscan home, surrounded by ancient ceramics collected from the Orient and Pre-Colombian South America, I now look back on those years as an invaluable training ground.

As a potter, there is an overwhelming feeling inside me of working in a medium closely linked to the ancient past. I would like to think that I translate this in my work, but with the added excitement of a fresh and modern approach.

Here at GallerySCA we still like to think of Terry as one of our own, he was born in Shrewsbury in 1961. His back story is a fascinating one visit Terry’s own website to find out more.
