Once again we have a collection of superb artists on display, including Beth Fletcher - Shrewsbury based Beth is widely collected, she works in oils in a very expressive and thoughtful way. Linda Styles ceramic artist, many have tried to pigeon hole Linda’s work with little success, there is simply nothing like it, exciting, vibrant and not to be missed. Tony Owers, working in silk screen printing on canvas with encaustic - a method of painting in wax first used by the Egyptians. He creates layered canvases, very contemporary, often abstract, always interesting. Karen Morgan, functional and decorative porcelain pieces, just gorgeous, gorgeous stuff. Sheila Goodman S.W.A Pastel paintings of supreme quality. Simply beautiful work, Sheila is a member of the Society of Women Artists, she exhibits widely in the south of England and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to bring her work to Shropshire.
It promises to be a great show so we would love to see you at the PV or during the weeks to come.

Having undertaken the City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma, Amy Keeper graduated from London Metropolitan University in June 2007. During her time there she developed an interest in images and photography in jewellery and particularly vintage postcards and photographs. Citing Bettina Speckner as a strong influence on her work, Amy enjoys the idea that moments of time are captured in photographs and these moments can be treated as precious elements in jewellery.
While at London Met Amy achieved a British Jewellers Association Merit Award, was commended for a Goldmsiths Award and was selected to exhibit at the New Designer Exhibition 2007.
Amy is currently based at Howard Fenn and Alfred Pain’s Silver Workshop in the Leather Market, London Bridge
There are many peices in the range and more images will be added soon or get in touch for details

Although Elizabeth lives in Kent she has strong connections with the Shropshire market town of Bishops Castle. She exhibits regularly at galleries across South and East England and has been represented at Art Fairs in London, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Canterbury. This however is her first show in Shropshire.
Elizabeths subjects are always drawn from particular experiences. Figurative pieces can originate from events such as meals with friends, watching builders and decorators at work, or going to concerts. Landscapes are inspired by the Medway area with its combination of mudflats, reed-beds and industrial history; by the Shropshire and Norfolk countryside or from sitting in the gardens of friends.
The paintings arise slowly out of a long period of working. Initially preliminary studies are made, often on the spot, in pen, ink or watercolour. These, sometimes supplemented by photographs, are used to produce a large number of small pieces exploring compositional forms, colour and tone. Some of these may develop into larger watercolour and gouache or collage works in their own right. The subject begins to become “known” and work is begun on a series of oil paintings, maybe five or more at a time. Above all colour evokes not only the space, but the season, the time of day, the mood — the very essence of the piece.
The paintings are worked over many times, the artist moving from one piece to another as each establishes its own identity and until some element of that original event has been caught. By this time the subject has acquired a life of its own.

Young British Designer Timea Sido is a designer / maker based at the prestigious Cockpit Arts in London. Timea graduated from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in 2001 and has since embarked on a successful design career working for a variety of clients, which include, Kevin McCloud, Molton Brown and the Great Eastern Hotel, London.
The Tangled Web Collection challenges conventional ceramics, through the development of an innovative technique in which organic lines are formed and layered to construct the final piece.
Each piece is hand crafted by Timea using fine White Earthenware.
The beautiful ‘Tangled Web’ pieces are entirely created from ‘tangled’ organic lines, while the exquisite ‘Fragile fragment’ pieces delicately fuse the tactile lines to a smooth solid surface, creating enchanting ceramics for contemporary living.

Born in Kingston-upon-Thames in London in 1956. I have lived in Shropshire for 30 years. I studied art in Shrewsbury and the Froebel Institute in Roehampton. After a long gap (whilst bringing up a family) I returned to painting seriously 6 years ago.
Since that time, I have had various joint and one woman shows and have sold paintings regularly and I am now widely collected throughout the UK.
Colour and movement are what I look for in all that I see around me and I hope this is reflected in my paintings.
Penny was a runner up in the ‘Not the Turner’ prize run by the Daily Mail

Since taking early retirement from teaching, I have been fortunate enough to indulge my passion for painting and paint daily using collage, acrylics, pastel, watercolour and charcoal.
I paint still life, landscape and street scenes, inspired by visits to the South of France, life and work.
My inspiration comes from a lifelong passion for colour, form and texture. I enjoy experimenting and have developed a technique using collage and acrylics in order to create an exciting surface.
Bringing life and movement into my work, each object interacts with another to provide depth, pattern, balance and harmony thus putting ‘life’ into still life.

Jon and myself were really delighted to be asked to attend the private view of Emma’s work at the prestigous Chelsea Arts Club in London this week.
Emma is a well established sculptor in bronze and ceramic and her work is sort after by collectors and museums alike.
View more of her work on www.emmarodgers.co.uk
The Chelsea Arts Club was founded on March 21st 1891 on the suggestion of Whistler and now has 1600 painters, sculptors, architects, designers, photographers and filmmakers, and 800 writers, dancers, musicians and other kinds of artists as its Members.
Emma’s work looked fantastic set in the grounds of the club and the evening was extremely well attended, packed in fact!
Below are some images of the two largest sculptures in the grounds of the club and also from a visit I made to the foundry to see them being finished with patina. They are truely awe inspiring and we are really excitied as we will have the opportunity to show them briefly in Gallery SCA once the Chelsea show closes.
Each is only an edition of three.
Watch this space for further details or contact us direct. We still have some of Emma’s work avaiable to purchase, again contact us through the site or call us direct.

A predominant influence in this work is the landscape, but not a static landscape, instead a landscape in time; where things grow, the land moves, geological deposits are built up and most importantly where humankind has intervened and our repetitive, methodic actions have left lasting visual effects on the environment.
Conversely I am also influenced by man-made environments and constructions that have been eroded or transformed through time by the natural forces of sea, wind, rain, frost or sun.
This work is about places and landscapes I has visited or travelled through, but I want to avoid extraneous descriptive detail in my work, instead things are pared down to express the spirit and essence of place and time.
Technical Information
All my work is slab built using a lightly grogged body. With larger pieces initial marks, textures and colours are added before the piece is assembled. When the clay is soft, textures can be made directly onto the clay surface with my hands and fingers. I aim to create depth on the surface of the pieces and do this by applying layers of engobes, slips and underglaze colours when the clay is leatherhard and then build up more layers as the clay dries. I combine this with different methods of mark making directly into the clay surface using a variety of simple tools, some of these being bits of broken stick, ends of paintbrushes and my own fingers.
The work is fired to 1140°C and more layers of engobe are applied before oxides and glossy glaze is used to highlight detail.
I make simple forms that normally have a defined back and front; this allows the surface that is my main fascination to be shown off. I tend to work with a series of similar forms and explore ideas through drawing and painting before committing myself to the ceramic pieces

There is an imperceptible change in the air as August comes to an end. The mornings fill the valleys with mist, colours become more subtle, I find it a more contemplative time and it is my favourite time to paint. Our new show ‘A Sense of Place’ has a reflective feel, it will evoke memories of the summers we used to have, aspirations of where we would like to be. Come along and be uplifted.
Featuring work by Erni Upton, landscapes in oil - superb work, Erni, a Scot himself, really is a master of colour like the Scottish colourists of old. Ceramicist Craig Underhill - beautiful sculptural ceramic vessels which have a real presence. Abstract paintings by Elizabeth Akehurst, still life paintings by Lesley Fisher, uplifting paintings by Penelope Timmis, intricate forms in porcelain by Timea Sido and solid silver jewellery by Amy Keeper

A Scot, born in Ayrshire in 1936, Erni has been painting since childhood. Schooled at Ayr Grammar & Ayr Academy, much of his youth was spent with the fisher folk of West Scotland & their boats & he still cruises these waters each year
Erni trained at Glasgow School of Art, where he studied under Donaldson, Mathieson & Robertson. His work reflects their influences & those of the Scottish colourists who like him, spent much time in the wonderful light & colours of the West Coast. Painting in this tradition, he works with oils on canvas, using both brush & knife
In 1985, after many years in banking, he returned to Art & Design when he established an interior design company in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He continued to work in oils, mainly commissions for corporate & private clients, but it was not until 1999, when the company was sold, that more time became available for painting
His work is successfully shown in many galleries in England, Scotland & abroad He has most recently exhibited in Istanbul where he was invited, as a result of commission work, to have a solo exhibition at the British Embassy, and a subsequent solo at one of the premier galleries in the city
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, London, in November 2004
