Tom was born in the City of London in 1960. After studying, he lived and worked in West Dorset. During this time he used a beach hut as a studio, painting the light and changing atmosphere of Lyme Bay.

Discovering the Cornish Coast on a walking holiday in 1982 he realised a yearning to live and work close to a rugged and romantic coastline. Eventually, in 1992 he moved to West Penwith and fulfilled this dream - to sit on the edge of a vast ocean and paint its moods and splendour.

Tom also works in the Scottish Highlands, Nantucket Island USA and Sicilly. Although an accomplished landscape painter he is drawn towards the simple minimalism of the subject of the sea and sky, making his point of interest the horizon, where these two elements are compressed.

Tom Exhibits widely in the West Country, London and the USA.

Sue Davis has been a professional artist since graduating from the Central School of Art in London. After a 10 year period as a teacher, she left her Head of Art position in Harrow to run a design and mural painting business in Hertfordshire for 16 years. On selling the business she moved to Falmouth where she now lives and works.

With many years experience of painting and drawing her personal exploration has brought her to non-representational work. Always being aware of many thoughts and feelings running through her head at the same time. She feels the abstract approach has more power for her, it allows many images to jostle together and create something new. Something which is not so formalised and literal that it stops ones imagination growing.

As with any image it has to start somewhere and since arriving in Cornwall she has taken up kayaking. The kayak allows her to slip silently though the silken waters. Moving low in the water gives a new dimension and sometimes makes the whole world seem to be slipping and sliding. Always aware of light, shade, time and sound, the images of these journeys have added to and informed her latest works.

Driven by the unique responsive qualities of clay, Sarah creates ceramic forms that respond to the flowing contours of the body. The rhythm and movement created through her work captivates the viewer in an intimate reciprocal engagement.

“Through my work, I aim to evoke an immediate sensorial response. I am fascinated by the physicality of abstract form and how we respond to that physicality with our own.

With my work I aim to create a dialogue between the contrasting rhythms of internal and external space. The intersecting contours within the pieces create tensions between interior and exterior. As we explore the forms the contrasting tensions evoke the senses and take us on a perceptual journey.

In the contemplation of my work I hope the viewer will become aware of their own sensory response as a reciprocal conversation with the form.”

Free from the constraints of modern life, Sarah’s ceramics aim to lift our senses out of routine by creating a connection that grips the body, not fighting to be understood, but demanding to be felt. Lost in a state of aesthetic contemplation her work aims to ignite our senses in an increasingly standardised world.

This collection of work by Roy Ray is intended to supplement the artist’s keynote “Evilution” project. “Evilution” is a major undertaking, in which he looks back at the “mass destruction of innocent lives by the corrupt use of science and technology”. The first phase was called “Where their footsteps left no trace”. Other phases will follow at selected venues.

Roy Ray was born in 1936 and moved to St. Ives in 1974. He was Principal of St. Ives School of Painting from 1977 – 2000, later becoming a Founder Trustee of the School’s Trust. He is a member of the Chelsea Art Club the Newlyn Society of Artists and Founder Member of Porthmeor Printmakers and St. Ives Archive. He has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout Europe and is held in many public collections including St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, Falmouth School and Allied Irish Bank.

Though born in Nottingham, Richard grew up in a remote corner of North Devon. After obtaining distinctions in Art and Design he went on to achieve a first class honours degree in illustration at University College Falmouth.

Apart from his personal paintings he works as an illustrator in Devon represented by agents in London and New York.

His paintings evolve from an inherent reaction to the diversity or the landscape, primarily concerned with facets of weather and light. The images are not just a representation of the land but also his emotional response to it.

“My work is not just a snap shot of a place at one instant in time. Rather a record of a place over a period of time, summing up my feelings for the environment and the time I spend in it”

‘To me, nothing is more challenging or exhilarating than a blank canvas between you and the landscape.’

At the age of 21, after studying at Falmouth College of Art and Design, Julian Mason has earnestly dedicated himself to communicating his love of the landscape through his paintings.

Julian’s work endeavours to capture the atmospheric effects of a scene and how the elements influence the landscape. From dramatic views of the Peaks to seascapes of Cornwall, each painting is the culmination of technical skill mixed with the insatiable desire to invite an equally passionate response from the viewer.

His work is enjoyed by many private collectors on these shores and beyond.

Inspiration comes from the environment around me. Particularly found objects from the urban environment – wet cardboard boxes, old engine parts, rusty buckets, tin cans etc. The quality of joining, forming and change in these discarded objects are a starting point which develops when working in clay. The tradition of clay vessels looking to artefacts made from other materials for their inspiration, usually being the poor mans version, interests me.

My thrown forms are more contemplatory, they explore the vessel as a metaphor for the human body with terms like lip, neck, belly and foot.
By using silver leaf the pieces although made from the humblest materials are given status and value.

The pieces are raku fired and the patinated silver leaf is applied to the surface. The silver is then lacquered to maintain the quality and finish. Joy Bosworth was selected as a professional member of the Craft Potters Association in 1997and as a Fellow of the CPA in 2000. She is the author of several books on ceramics and currently lectures at Birmingham City University.
